Welcome to My Personal Page Joany's Gems and Jewels
When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) six years ago, my life changed in many ways. Something I did not anticipate was taking up boxing and how much I would benefit from it.
Welcome to ROCK STEADY BOXING!
Rock Steady Boxing provides a way for those of us with Parkinson’s to come together, happily, and literally fight our way to better health. We learn to keep our hands up and our feet moving. Pushing myself physically during class brings about flexibility, agility, balance and stamina. Boxing works by moving your body while continuously changing the individual routine from stretching, pushups, sparring for 3 rounds of 3 minutes on each of the following: speed bag, double bag; the heavy bag, and last the upper cut bag. One has now worked a full 36 minutes of boxing. The end is near, sparring 3 to 4 rounds with the boxing coach and lastly 3 minutes skipping rope. My total workout time 1 hour and 15 minutes, I’m feeling great thanks to Rock Steady Boxing.
Rock Steady Boxing was brought to the Philadelphia area by the efforts of The Parkinson’s Council. The Parkinson’s Council also supports Dance classes for Parkinson’s, Yoga for PD, a Care Giver program, and Funds Research for Parkinson’s disease. If you are unable to physically walk with us on October 14, 2017 at A Walk to Stamp Out Parkinson’s, we ask you donate to our team so we can support all of the wonderful programs they bring to the Delaware Valley.
My goal is to raise $18,000 to support the programs. Thank you for your support!
